Knitting Up A Storm

These rainy, windy, wintery evenings have been quite productive for me. I’ve been sitting in front of the tv with a ball of wool and some knitting needles. It’s helped me immensely with my now non-existent insomnia. After looking between the tv and the wool all night my eyes get to a point where they can’t stay open and I fall into bed and snore my head off.

Remember that ball of sheep’s wool I posted about a while back? Well I turned it (and 2 more)  into a nice warm scarf for Yasu! I finished it yesterday and last night he was walking around like a proud peacock wearing his new scarf. I’m really happy he likes it so much!

Now I’m on to a new project. Youtube is so wonderful. Today I have learnt how to knit one purl one just from watching the video’s online. I’m thinking of making us some mobile phone covers in a kind of rib stitch that is stretchy with some new purple wool I bought. That will keep me going for the rest of the week at least.

I’ll leave you with a photo of Yasu’s finished scarf in Arabian Spice.

疲れたのに嬉しい

I’ve been quite sick the last week and on the weekend but I’m not going into it too much other to say than I have really been going through some tough times with my health and on saturday night I thought it might have been the end of me.

I’m now much better than I was though, thanks to Yasu’s care and support. He has been up at night with me when waste was coming from both orifices, helped me clean myself up at times when I looked and felt like hell and we have both emerged at the end of it. I don’t even have my indigestion any more, (touch wood), my body seems to have balanced itself out, I don’t have issues with eating meat or anything, and feeling totally fine once again. Thanks Yasu for being such a nice husband.

In spite of all that was going on over the weekend we had pre-planned a lunch at our house with another couple the week before, and I didn’t feel like cancelling it, and surprise surprise my body actually behaved itself while we had company. (After is another story though!)

We had a Japanese-Czech couple over for lunch, the wife is Japanese and the husband is Czech. They decided to live here as it’s a neutral place for both of them. They are both studying and working, quite hard to do, but their positivity about it all shines through. Neither of them speak each other’s language so they only converse in English – a second language for both of them.

It was a pleasure to have them over and we talked and ate a lot of yummy food. Time flew, and they ended up staying to watch the Sumo review on TV, which was the husband’s first time ever to see Sumo and we were all remarking how the European Sumo wrestlers have such hairy chests… haha :)

Tonight is my last Tarot class..I’m looking forward to it but sad it’s going to end. Though I do intend to do the 2nd and 3rd levels when I get the money. I’m doing her herbal workshop this weekend, so looking forward to that. :)

I’ll leave you with last night’s dessert. Was yum :) (food again…can’t help myself!)

寝るの日本語

The last 3 days I have pretty much stuck around home because of what was going on in my body, and that suits me fine. But while I am stuck here I have been reviewing Japanese with the textbook from university. The first one in the series is pretty basic stuff, nothing too hard, but really good for revision.

I’ve been following Yasu around with my textbook asking him random questions in Japanese. He knows I’m studying so he replies in Japanese – something he wouldn’t do if I just randomly decided to talk to him in Japanese.

Anyway, every night when Yasu goes to bed, he has said “come to bed, bring your textbook”. So we get into bed and I am still studying and will be practicing saying different sentences.

But it only lasts for a few minutes because Yasu falls asleep. Every night he says he’ll stay awake but I’ll start talking and he’ll nod off.

Like last night, I was practicing ことがある sentences.

Me: メキシコ料理を食べたことがありますか?

Yasu: はい. おいしかったです.

Me: 中国に行ったことありますか?

Yasu: …… *sluuurp* *smack* wha?

Me: Were you sleeping? I just asked you the question.

Yasu: No!? I was waiting for you to ask it.

Me: Yeah, right. Ok, but don’t fall asleep ok?

Yasu: I’m not..

Me:  Okay, where was I? Oh. ロシア語を勉強したことありますか?

Yasu: ….. *snore*….

Me: Yasu!! I told you not to fall asleep.

Yasu: *smacks lips…slurps…groans* wha? *mumble mumble*

Me: Are you listening to me?

Yasu: ….. *snore*

Me: !! You are a ばかやろう you know that??!*continues to read Japanese out really LOUD*

It’s the same every night, no matter what the topic of Japanese. My Japanese reading isn’t that bad. Ok, I’m terrible at reading katakana, but hiragana and kanji is ok.

I guess it’s like reading a book to a kid at bedtime. しかたがないね。。。

Stupid Car and Bum Talk

Ugh, what a night. I’ve been coping with uncontrollable “geri” all night. It’s 1am as I write this and I have had a very eventful night.

I stopped taking my ulcer medication yesterday morning because it was giving me the runs. But the runs actually kept running and haven’t stopped since despite me taking quite a lot of Seirogan and Imodium for it. :( Now I have my ulcer making it’s horrible acid and burning my throat again plus a horrible dose of the runs which sees me running to the toilet like every 5 minutes.

I called my doctor today to try to get an appointment but he is booked up until next Tuesday. Not happy Jan.

So, tomorrow, if this keeps on, I will maybe have to go to the hospital to see if I can get some relief.

Tonight we had to pop down the shop (about 10kms away) for a few things for dinner. The ride there was uneventful but when we finished shopping and got in the car, the car wouldn’t start.

Yasu asked me to sit in the drivers seat and start the car and put my foot on the accelerator, but I had no idea what I was doing and he expected me to understand, and I didn’t, so he just gave up and told me to get out. Thankfully he didn’t get angry. But I was pissed at the car and the mechanic as we only just paid $300+ to get the fuel injectors fixed, which is what he said was the problem. Well, I’m pretty sure it’s not that because it’s still doing the same thing.

Jeez. So anyway, the car wouldn’t start, and it was only 3 degrees and we had to sit in the car for half an hour waiting. All that time I had stomach cramps and was trying to hold back the runs. I was seriously panicking because Yasu said we should just walk home – in the freezing cold – and there would be nowhere to stop to go to the toilet! It’s just suburbia.

Anyway, half an hour later Yasu tried to start the car again and it fired up, and he didn’t waste time pulling out of the carpark. We jerked all the way home, such is the mechanical problem with the car, so you can imagine my guts during that time sloshing about…by the time we got home I had to just dash to the loo and stay there for about half an hour. Ugh! Damn that car! And damn the stupid mechanic, who now is saying that we need a new gearbox, some $500 or so.

When it doesn’t rain it pours right? I’m just wondering how long til the car actually bites the dust all together. It’s 10 years old now. I guess it won’t last forever. It’s been a good car but I can’t help feeling a sense of dread about it all, that we might have to fork over some $ for a new car around the bend. At least for now Yasu has his company car to get to work and back so there is no problem with getting around, but amen for that.

On days like this, going travelling just seems further and further away. I guess it’s the ups and downs of life… :) Gotta keep truckin’ though.

Puppy Love

I’m thinking about getting the light brown coloured puppy in this video. I haven’t told Yasu yet though… haha! Might just bring him home and say “surprise!” I took this video at the pet shop with my mobile phone so it’s not the greatest quality but you can still see the cuteness :)

I’ve wanted another dog for ages, and I thought why wait? Life is short and I want to give some lovin’, so I may as well give it to a furry bundle of joy!
