My roses are in full bloom, they are white standards, so I took a few pics of them.

I also had a go at making しょうゆ卵 yesterday, from LFM’s recipe (thanks LFM!) I was looking forward to Yasu trying them and when he came home he looked in the fridge and asked me what it was. He had never seen or heard of it before…. so he took a bite and said “Oh, it’s abit salty”, I was disappointed but what can you do. Next time I guess I’ll make teriyaki tamago or something seeing as he thought it was too salty. [We did buy something that looked like this in Nagoya, but it was aka-miso eggs. We took them to Yasu's parents as they once lived in Nagoya and missed aka-miso...but I'm not sure if they are made in a similar way to shoyu tamago or not.]
I made tsukune for dinner and I gave myself a tamago but not him. He got his knickers in a twist because we were supposed to go to his baseball wind-up, and he decided he wasn’t going, and I suggested he go by himself and spend time with “the guys”, and he got upset because he didn’t want to go without me and ended up ignoring me for a couple of hours. Ugh. Bloody cranky pants.
I ended up going food shopping for Christmas day by myself and he just picked me and the groceries up afterwards.
Mum is coming over on boxing day to see us and also Yasu has to see the optometrist for an eye test because he can’t see properly out of his eye because of the metal bits. What a shambles. We have an afternoon tea date with a Japanese friend and her Aussie fiance on Sunday afternoon, and on Monday I have a class I’m attending about a new healing therapy. :)
So…Christmas day will be relaxing I hope, just us, the roast pork and some good xmas movies on tv. I’m making a trifle too. :) And after that things will get a bit busy…

Where is Yasu from originally? I wonder if shoyu tamago are specific to the Tokyo area? Merry Christmas!

Hey FM, Merry Christmas and thanks for visiting! He was born in Nagoya but grew up in Hokkaido. Could that explain it? ;)

Possibly! Who knows? All I know is that they’re very popular, especially in bentos, in the Tokyo area!
