Yesterday we went to visit a Japanese friend we know and her Aussie partner. We stopped in at Utopia and bought a matcha-azuki roll cake for afternoon tea. It was the first time we had been to their house. It was a nice place, right across from a park and 5 minutes from the beach.

We really enjoyed their company and J is a really great guy. He’s in the army and he is kind of like a walking encyclopaedia, he knows abit of everything. He’s very unlike alot of the Aussie guys I find Japanese women getting together with (aka Losers). He’s currently working at a women’s and childrens hospital and doing uni part-time so he’s always got something on the boil. N is actually trained as a dietition and aerobics instructor and her qualifications are recognised here so we were talking about how she was going to set up her business here.

We ended up staying for dinner, N made a 手巻き寿司 and から揚げ. It was yum! We then watched a Japanese movie that they had got from the library, called Maadadayo! We had already seen it about 5 years ago but we watched it with them because we didn’t really mind. They have a projector which displays the movie on the wall, it’s cool, very big though, just like being in the cinema.

We finally left at about 11pm with lots of Japanese dvds including Ponyo. They told us they didn’t really like it as it went weird in the middle but we really wanted to see it so we borrowed it anyway.

This morning we woke up about 8am and put Ponyo on, and we both really liked it. Where was the weird part? We didn’t see anything funny in the storyline…. :)

Anyway, we watched it on our new tv! Yasu bought a new tv on boxing day, a flat screen LCD, so we are now with the program so to speak and could stop using the small screen box tv that we had. haha…we are abit behind the times, but we saw a bargain that was just too good not to get! We are pretty happy with it, and now watching tv is a joy not a pain in the eye.. I feel like i’m at the movies.. :)

Today we also started to watch The Neverending Story. I bought it about a month ago but we hadn’t watched it yet. Yasu fell asleep about 15 minutes in, so we turned it off and had an afternoon nap. We were meant to go to the beach but we were both so buggered we couldn’t be bothered, so I just made chicken and cheese snitzel for dinner with potato salad and devilled eggs, and we watched some funny kids show on tv called Shakiin The Night!

Yasu is back to work tomorrow for 3 days and then another 3 days break. He’s also got an appointment with the doctor for his eye tomorrow morning. I don’t have to go back to work until the week after, so I’m abit footloose and fancy free.

I’ll leave you with my favourite version on youtube. Love the way the girl sings it, it makes me smile!
