Today around 1pm a friend on facebook urged me to go outside and look at the sun because she said there was a halo around it. So I dutifully obliged but as I didn’t want to burn my eyes I took my digital camera out and took some photo’s.

I was really surprised by the effect that I could see. The sun did indeed have a halo around it plus rings of different colours, firstly pink, blue, then purple and then an orange colour or what looked more like an oily colour when you see the rainbow.

Then I noticed a round object that had appeared above the sun and seemed to morph into a mushroom shaped object.

The object appears in the above photo to the right, looking like a mushroom on it’s side. It appears to be pink but started off as white.

It was funny because at the time I was taking the photo I was thinking to myself it would be good if “they” would appear. Then, when I checked back through the photo’s I saw this funny object getting further away from the sun.

Anyway, I was pleased to have them around today, and very pretty too. :)
This was such a hard day for me, emotionally, so I am glad they are around for support. Just their prescence reminds me of bigger and better things.

**** Update

I actually found out just a few moments ago that a halo around the sun is an optical phenomenon caused by ice crystals high up in the troposphere that form an arc or circle around the sun or moon. The colours are a result of the light refracting of the ice crystals. You can learn more about this phenomenon here.
