Look What I Made!

I went to my sewing class this afternoon. I must say it was good to get out of the house and have some “me” time for a change. :) Read more

Not Too Bad

Sewing class was good yesterday. I learnt how to sew a button hole, and how to sew a zipper. I also learnt how to make ruched fabric for dresses. Read more

Hey… I’m Not So Hopeless Afterall!

Yesterday I went to my first sewing class.

It was actually very good! Yan, our teacher, took us through all the parts of the sewing machine, and then we practiced turning the machine on, threading the bobbin, and threading the needle. We also then tried out all the stitches on the sewing machine and the tension.

It was really good for me as I’m a very visual person and I can only remember something if I see it take place, or if I do it myself.

Yan is really patient and goes through everything. She taught us how to sew a french seam, how to do some pretty stitches and the kind of seam you use for jackets and jeans. I was so proud of myself! I can actually sew in a straight line without stuffing anything up!

I took all my pieces that I had sewn home (basically squares of fabric with stitches and seams on them) and showed Yasu and he gave me lots of praise. He had previously tried to teach me how to sew but gave up because he said I was hopeless.

It seems I just needed the right teacher. :)

Anyway, we had packed my sewing machine away because I wasn’t using it, so I got it out this morning and threaded it all up and started practicing the stitches and seams again! I even made a rudimentary bag just for having a go.

Next week we are taking an old t-shirt in and redecorating it with material and stitches. I’ve got alot of Japanese material that I bought and haven’t used so I’m hoping to turn my t-shirt into a Japanese-esque design. :)

I’m bouncing along today, I feel pretty uplifted that I can use my sewing machine to make lots of crafty things from here on in, I can’t wait until next week!!

Wacky Wednesday

Yep, it sure has been a wacky day. Why? Well internet gossip for starters. Some things just never die down.

And to top it off I got an infection in my gum and it ended up spreading to my jaw which meant I haven’t been able to chew food since yesterday. I went to the doctor this afternoon and he gave me penicillin.

I have a committee meeting tonight that I have to attend so no resting for me. I’m cooking rice at the moment (thank god for electric rice cookers!) and Yasu said he would stop by KFC and bring home dinner for himself after work (thank god for nice husbands). (and just to clarify Yasu can’t eat KFC without rice) lol

So what have I done today? Not a whole lot. Talked to my friend in Himeji on facebook again… I don’t know, we get chatting and then the next time I look at the clock like 3 hours have passed. It’s terrible! I’m kind of addicted to the games on there, we both are, and so we’re constantly saying “hey, quick go get the coins now before someone else does!” “I just sent you a plate of tandoori”, “can you send me a lotto coupon?”, haha… lol

Readings and healings are sporadic at the moment – I think people just don’t have the money to part with at the moment, I don’t mind as I’m having a bit of a break too. I really slowed down after the m/c by choice, and now I’m kind of coasting along. But not for long!

Next week will be a busy one as my 2 sewing classes start! I’m looking forward to it but wondering if the woman will have any luck teaching me! I’m so terrible at sewing full stop. I have my own machine which I will take, so with any luck I’ll be able to use it for the first time since I got it last year. :)

I’m doing a sewing for beginners, and also a revamp class where you can make things out of old clothes or material. That will be interesting.

If I can just learn to sew in a straight line I will be happy! :)
